Hi, I’m Kassondra Grzankowski, MD But most just call me Dr. G.
Things people who know me know about me; I love football, I love my dogs, I love Veuve Clicquot, I love live music, and most importantly I love my patients like family!
I grew up in Buffalo, New York—home of the Buffalo Bills—and I’m still a diehard fan. I have a small, close-knit family and friendships that go all the way back to grade school. I attended an all-girls private high school, where I stayed busy playing sports (volleyball was my favorite), serving as class president, and competing in speech and debate. Yes—I’ve always been a bit of a nerd. And honestly, that’s exactly what you want in your doctor!
I knew as early as third grade that I wanted to be a surgeon—I just didn’t know what kind yet.
I went on to earn my Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences, graduating magna cum laude, before attending the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in Buffalo, NY, where I received my medical degree—officially becoming “Dr. G”. Along the way, I balanced academics with real life: working as a waitress, traveling for concerts, and even making it to France where I had my first taste of “real” Champagne.
During medical school, I found my calling in gynecologic oncology. I was drawn to the combination of complex, challenging surgery and the opportunity to build long-term relationships with my patients.
I appreciated that a longstanding relationship with a patient was important to me. I wanted to be able to speak the truth to my patients, teach them, cry with them, laugh with them, hug them, maybe even curse now and then with them (after all cancer does suck).
I completed my residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Hawaii, then returned to Buffalo New York for fellowship training in Gynecologic Oncology at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, an NCCN-designated cancer center. After four years of residency and four additional years of fellowship, I completed my training and began practicing as a gynecologic oncologist.
What matters most to me in this field is the relationship I build with my patients. I believe in being honest, educating clearly, and showing up fully—whether that means answering difficult questions, celebrating progress, or sitting with someone through the hardest moments.
Now this is the part where you fit into my story.
If you’re looking for experienced, compassionate gynecologic oncology care in the San Antonio area, I’m here to help guide you through it.
